Far better will be the data centre's social and economic impact
Facebook has broken ground on its new €200 million data centre in Clonee, Co Meath; its first in Ireland and second in Europe.
As with most industry projects, the big, consumer-facing news is presented as a ‘job creation’ announcement, something I’ve always found to be unsettlingly deferential to industry. It will lead to thousands of construction jobs, and, apparently, bring Facebook’s Irish-based team numbers up to just around 1,000 – hooray, I guess?
