Grafton says revenue in first four months rises by 13.2% to £790 million

Grafton Group said it had enjoyed a positive start to the year with revenue for the first four months of 2016 rising by 13.2 per cent to £790 million (€1 billion) but warned that uncertainty over the outcome of the UK referendum on EU membership was having an impact on activity in the British market.

In a trading update ahead of its annual meeting later today, the building materials group said revenue in the first four months of the year was up by 11.9 per cent in constant currency terms. A breakdown of sales showed turnover in its UK merchanting business rose by nine per cent althoughGrafton said the market softened in April after a good first quarter "which may reflect current market uncertainties".
