As we report in this week’s newspaper, both Bank of Ireland and AIB have posted healthy financial results for the first half of the year.

Leaving aside the exceptional charges both banks took on their loan books last year due to the economic uncertainty created by Covid-19, the underlying fundamentals of both have looked in robust shape over recent years.
