Microsoft to lay off 1,900 people across gaming divisions with concerns for jobs in Ireland

Layoffs come amid a turbulent time for the gaming sector with Riot Games also cutting jobs and Irish developer WarDucks going out of business

Microsoft will lay off 1,900 people across its video-game divisions including at Activision Blizzard, which it purchased for $69 billion in an acquisition that closed late last year.

The Business Post reported last November that more than one in three workers at the Irish arm of Activision, whose titles include the Call Of Duty video game maker, feared job losses as a result of its merger with Microsoft.
