Irish tech trailblazer and serial entrepreneur Pat McDonagh dies
The former teacher turned tech investor amassed a fortune on the back of pioneering companies such as CBT Systems, Riverdeep and Thirdforce
Tributes have been paid to Pat McDonagh, the serial tech investor and founder of CBT Systems and Riverdeep, who has died at the age of 72.
Widely regarded as a trailblazer, McDonagh was a former schoolteacher turned investor who amassed a fortune from founding and backing tech companies, and from property deals.
Early to spot the impact that technology would have, in 1983, McDonagh founded CBT Systems, a company that specialised in computer-based training software. He made an estimated $45 million after the company floated on the Nasdaq 12 years later in 1995.
