Sotheby’s is offering the private collection of the late Oscar-winning actor, playwright, raconteur and humanitarian Peter Ustinov across two auctions in Paris, starting with a live sale on July 6 and a further online auction which is open for bidding from June 30 to July 7.

It features items from his homes in France and Switzerland ranging from artworks by Renoir, Vallotton, Kokoschka and old masters to movie memorabilia and annotated scripts.

For many he was the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot; he was a familiar face on our own Late Late Show; his career included more than 70 films, including his first Oscar-winning performance in Stanley Kubrick’s Spartacus in 1960. He was also a Unicef Goodwill Ambassador.
