A fine collection of Irish greats and modern treasures

Morgan O’Driscoll’s penultimate auction of 2023 features Sean Scully and Evie Hone alongside lesser-known contemporary masters

Lot 69, Robert Ballagh, People and a Van der Grijn (estimate €2,500-€3,500)

The penultimate auction of the year from Morgan O’Driscoll, the pioneer of online art auctions, closes on Monday, November 27.

The 276-lot sale is a roll call of blue-chip and leading contemporary artists, offering collectors and enthusiasts plenty of choice.

Lot 17, Sean Scully, Untitled (1983) (estimate €40,000-€60,000)
Lot 24, Sean Keating, Dancing (estimate €3,000-€5,000)
Lot 28, Elizabeth Magill, Scenic Route 2 (1997) (estimate €5,000-€7,000)

O’Driscoll’s currently holds the record price for a work sold at auction in 2023, when it sold Ravel Rojo by Sean Scully on April 18 for €580,000. Over the past year, the gallery has brought 14 works (including multiples and photographs) by the artist to the market. It is therefore not a surprise to see three Sean Scully examples in the forthcoming sale.
