Social welfare inspectors are increasing their checks on disability allowance payments to tackle an annual fraud and error bill of almost €100 million.
Around 155,000 people get a weekly disability allowance of €220 per week. They are allowed to take up jobs while receiving the payment, but any income they earn above a certain level is taken into account in the means test for the payment.
