TDs and ministers to get fixed fines for ethics breaches

Ministers, TDs and senior public servants face the prospect of fixed fines if they are found to have breached their codes of conduct.

A new review of the ethical rules for politicians has found that the current model of investigating breaches through the Standards in Public Office Commission was “lengthy and cumbersome” in dealing with “clearcut cases” of breaches of the rules.
