Taoiseach puts the brakes on plan for car parking charges in Phoenix Park
Fianna Fáil’s Jack Chambers is also against the OPW’s proposal to introduce fees in order to reduce car usage in the capital’s popular recreation area
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar is opposing an official plan to introduce car parking charges in the Phoenix Park in his constituency.
The Phoenix Park, which encompasses 1,750 acres, gets millions of visitors every year for walking, cycling and tourist attractions like Dublin Zoo.
The Office of Public Works (OPW) is currently proposing to introduce car parking charges there in the “medium to long term” as part of a strategy to reduce car usage in the park.
