On a tour of a mixed Jewish-Arab neighbourhood in the Israeli city of Lod last week, Tánaiste Micheál Martin was educated on the complex history of both peoples who claim the land as their own.

Lod’s history as a Jewish settlement goes back 2,500 years, while the Arab’s claim to the land goes back 1,400 years. Today, both communities live side-by-side under the 1948 founded Jewish Israeli state, with far from equal rights.
