State to set 2030 carbon targets to the highest levels for every sector

Two years of stagnation mean meeting legally binding Climate Action Plan commitment to achieve a 51 per cent drop by 2030 will now be challenging

Each sector of the economy will have to hit the highest level of proposed government carbon reduction targets under new plans being finalised for cabinet approval this summer, the Business Post can reveal.

The move means every sector will be legally required to achieve the maximum proposed cut in carbon emissions from their 2018 levels and will mean enormous structural changes for the Irish economy.
