State to recruit South African builders to hike housing output
Construction workers are to be given permits to allow them come to Ireland and start building and retrofitting homes
An official drive is being planned to recruit South African builders to increase housing output in Ireland.
There are more than 140,000 construction workers here but another 50,000 workers are needed in the coming years to achieve the target of building 33,000 homes per year.
The Department of Social Protection has started planning a recruitment campaign with the public employment service in South Africa to find construction workers there.
