Public servants have been granted higher mileage rates to cope with the increased cost of fuel.

This move is expected to have a knock-on effect on the private sector, because most companies use the public-sector mileage rates when paying travel expenses to their staff.

It will benefit public sector workers who have to travel for their job such as HSE home help staff, public health nurses and project managers in the Office of Public Works.
