Irish Water has a “significant deficit” in its €1.3 billion annual budget and is set to use money originally set aside for the Shannon-to-Dublin water pipeline to cover its costs.
The state-owned utility has experienced a steep rise in its electricity bills for running its water and wastewater treatment plants, as well as in construction inflation on its new projects.
