Irish visa scheme a ‘financial Euro Disney for rich Chinese’

Hong Kong pro-democracy lobby group accuses government of selling off Irish residency at an ‘incredibly cheap’ price

A pro-democracy organisation has accused Ireland of creating a “financial Euro Disney” for Chinese millionaires with its “golden visa” scheme.

The state shut down its €1.5 billion immigrant investor programme earlier this year after it emerged that more than 90 per cent of successful applicants were Chinese businesspeople.

It allowed foreign investors to secure an Irish residency in return for investing a minimum of €400,000 in businesses and community projects here.
