The head of Twitter’s Irish operations contacted government officials to update them about job cuts following Elon Musk’s takeover of the company, despite not being mandated to do so.

Sinéad McSweeney, the managing director at Twitter Ireland and Twitter’s vice-president for global policy, emailed the most senior official in Leo Varadkar’s department the day Twitter announced it was cutting 50 per cent of its global workforce following Musk’s $44 billion deal to buy the company.
