The €1.3 billion Shannon pipeline is under threat due to the Green Party belief that it could lead to over-development in Dublin.

The 170-kilometre pipeline is due to bring excess water from the River Shannon to the Dublin region.

Uisce Éireann, formerly known as Irish Water, has submitted a preliminary business case for the project to the government and is hoping to submit a planning application for it at the end of next year.
