A Fine Gael councillor has decided to step down after next year’s local elections in a move which puts an end to his family’s 75-year record.

Patrick O’Connor-Scarteen is stepping down next year from Kerry County Council for “personal and family” reasons after 15 years in the role.

His father Michael served before him, and his grandfather Pat served before that. Two of his granduncles were shot dead by anti-Treaty forces in the Civil War.
