Fergus O’Dowd to retire at next election in fresh blow to Fine Gael
Veteran politician is the eighth Fine Gael TD to confirm their intention to stand down at the next general election
Fergus O’Dowd has confirmed he will not contest the next general election, becoming the latest in a raft of Fine Gael TDs to retire from the Dáil.
The veteran politician - who served in the Louth and East Meath constituency - has a public representative for over 50 years.
In that time, he has held a number of senior positions on the Fine Gael frontbench and is a former Senator and Mayor of Drogheda.
