The decision to force individual property developers to attend and give evidence comes after committee members faced down a plan to allow the developers’ representative organisations appear instead of the builders, many of whom had loans transferred into the state’s bad bank Nama.

The investigation team which is backing up the inquiry wanted to refrain from inviting developers unless they were specifically named in the course of committee hearings, a reaction which provoked dismay...
