Covid-19: Government scrambles to get message back on track as public patience starts to run out

Ministers knew they were up against it when they sat down to discuss the latest letter from Dr Tony Holohan, the chief medical officer, last week.

The cabinet meeting on Friday had come after a series of communications blunders which had only darkened the mood of a public that was already, as one minister put it, “fed up”.
