Posters went up last week for the local elections which are just a month away.

Although successive governments have successfully dumbed down the role of local government, the elections this May matter because subsidiarity governance is at a crossroads.

Voters do not regard local government as being as important as general elections. That gloomy view is reflected in turnouts for local electoral contests which are traditionally much lower than for national polls.
