I had thought by now that the Iraq war had delivered all of its unforgettable images. There was that first night of Dick Cheney’s ‘shock and awe’ firestorm over Baghdad; Saddam Hussein’s hollow statue crashing down; the lines of hooded prisoners at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo; and the blackened bodies, hanging from the bridge at Fallujah.
