Wind farms in Ireland produced record 41% of electricity in January

Industry warns over delays in planning system slowing delivery of new wind projects in Ireland

Noel Cunniffe, CEO of Wind Energy Ireland, said: “This is a very strong start to the year and builds on a strong final quarter of 2022 when wind energy was Ireland’s number one source of electricity.

January saw a new record for the most electricity produced by wind farms in Ireland, according to figures released on Wednesday.

The January Wind Energy report showed that 41 per cent of the country’s power came from wind last month, an increase of 9 per cent compared to January 2022.

The industry has warned, however, that delays in the planning system had slowed the delivery of new wind farms in Ireland.
