Job Title: Editor, Business Post

The Business Post Group is a diversified media group with a strong technology, data and digital driven portfolio of businesses. The flagship brand of the Business Post sits at the centre of the group and has a 30+ year track record as Ireland’s leading niche business, politics, economics and current affairs national news title.

The Business Post has put in place an ambitious strategy to engage with and serve its readers, subscribers, listeners, and viewers while building a financially sustainable media business that can promote independent journalism into the future.

The Publisher now seeks to appoint an Editor to lead the Business Post into the next stage of the title’s development. The Editor will be responsible for creating a multimedia content strategy with a dual focus of accelerating the brand’s digital growth and protecting the core print product. Key to this will be the ability to use data insights to shape the editorial direction of the content in order to build audiences and develop communities at a time of enormous change, while upholding the values of trusted, fact-checked and independent journalism.

The primary responsibility of the Editor of the Business Post is to manage the day-to-day strategy and development of the digital and print content, in line with editorial standards as defined by the board, while maintaining a clear focus on the wider strategy of the Business Post brand.

A multitude of factors such as developments in media consumption habits, notable advancements in technology and heightened demand for advertising revenue have resulted in a highly competitive media landscape. The Board of the Business Post sees this as an opportunity and looks to appoint an Editor who will rise to the challenge and embrace a growth mindset.

The Editor will serve as a member of the Business Post Leadership Team, contribute to the overall strategy of the organisation and report directly to the CEO on all editorial matters for the Business Post brand. They will also engage with the heads of the various other pillars of the group, including experiences, data & insights and learning, to explore and execute on wider content synergies.

The Editor will work closely with the CEO in managing the resources of The Business Post and in achieving both annual and strategic business goals set by the CEO and the board.

The key responsibilities of the role will include:

Bearing overall responsibility for the leadership of the Business Post editorial team; across digital, multimedia and print

Shaping the direction of content published across all Business Post branded platforms and publications

Driving the growth of digital, multimedia and print strategies across all platforms

Leading change throughout the newsroom to drive growth in a modern media environment

Through the Deputy Editor and Managing Editor, delegates effectively to the editorial section heads and empowers them to drive and lead the journalists they manage according to the accepted standard

Ensuring that effective management and controls are in place to meet digital deadlines and to ensure the timely publication of the weekly print product

Protects the title against the risk of defamation by exercising a highly developed editorial and legal skillset

Setting and managing deadlines and budgets to meet forecast targets

Represent the Business Post at the level of tv, radio & press; positioning the brand both nationally and internationally as the leading Irish commentator on business, politics and economics

Attending events as and when required to represent the Business Post brand

Supporting collaboration and cooperation across the other pillars within the group (experiences, data & insights, learning)

Liaising with the Group shared services teams (IT, finance, revenue etc.)
