We’re hiring: The Business Post is seeking an assistant news editor

The flagship brand of the Business Post sits at the centre of the group and is now a 7-day a week always-on media platform on BusinessPost.ie leading the must-have business, politics, economics and current affairs commentary, analysis and opinion in Ireland.

The Business Post wishes to recruit an assistant news editor (online). Reporting to the head of news, the successful candidate will play a vital role in the sourcing, organising, editing and publishing of daily content on BusinessPost.ie.

Role type: Full-time/permanent

Location: Dublin, Ireland

The role will involve:

· Working on a shift rotation between the hours of 6am and 10pm and helping to drive the Business Post’s seven-day business news operation to ensure delivery of top-quality content.

· Managing and leading a team of digital journalists, social media managers and data analysts.

· Collaborating with the Head of News and Deputy Editor to come up with new and original content ideas on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

· Editing and revising digital news stories, features and columns.

· Reviewing content for accuracy, sense and readability and making suggestions for improvements.

· Ensuring timely publication across both digital and print platforms.

· Choosing supporting material, including graphs, images, and charts, to complement the written piece.

· Using social media and multimedia content to support written articles.

· Working seamlessly with the Business Post’s production department to ensure that content is presented in clear, platform-appropriate formats.

· Working in conjunction with the marketing and audience teams to deliver content to the Business Post’s audience across the week.

· Managing the output of newsletters and other digital content products as required.

· Using search engine optimisation (SEO) to guide team members in creating topics of interest.

The successful candidate should have:

· Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or a related field is preferable.

· At least three years’ experience working in publishing/editing of an online / digital publication, news website or broadcaster. Experience in business journalism is an advantage.

· A digital native with an interest in learning and development.

· Strong working knowledge of publishing tools, such as MS Office, InDesign and Digital Content Publishing Systems.

· Experience in mobile & video journalism and multimedia content creation.

· Deep experience with SEO, social media platforms and scheduling tools.

· Experience in the publishing of newsletters.

· Excellent writing and proofreading skills.

· Good attention to detail, critical thinking, problem-solving, and time management skills.

· An up to date working knowledge of Irish defamation law.

· Strong attention to detail with ability to multi-task effectively.

· A self-starter mentality and be able to work on their own initiative and take responsibility for their work.

· Strong administrative and organisational skills.

· An ability to work in a team and be ready to assist the head of news to develop and nurture talent within the newsroom.

· Flexible attitude and approach to tasks in hand to include working flexible media/shift hours.

· Pleasant interpersonal and excellent English communication skills (both oral and written).
