Virgin Media Television says ‘major hack’ was not ransomware

The broadcaster said that the cyber attack has been ‘contained, isolated and terminated’

Virgin Media Television has said that a cyber attack that affected programming on some of its channels on Monday night was not a ransomware attack.

The National Cyber Security Centre is investigating the matter but a spokeswoman for the broadcaster said that it was confirmed not to be a ransomware attack, in which hackers demand payment from companies once they have accessed it.
