Vhi, the health insurer, is increasing premiums by an average of 4.8 per cent due to the increased cost of providing healthcare to customers.

The increase will come into effect from March 1, and the company said it was “necessary to ensure that Vhi can continue to meet the costs of providing healthcare to its customers in 2023 and beyond”.

The decision means families on some plans will pay an additional €183 a year.
