US Government confirms €650m plan for embassy at former Jury’s Hotel site

Current embassy building deemed too small for purpose and move to 4.2 acre site deemed preferable

US President Joe Biden’s government has confirmed it is to spend nearly $700 million (€649m) on the demolition of the former Jury’s Hotel in Dublin to make way for a new embassy in Ireland.

The US government has formally notified Congress that it intends to buy the Ballsbridge hotel site, demolish the existing buildings and construct a new compound including working offices and accommodation.
