Unemployment levels rise marginally as economists warn on potential income tax drop

A fall-off in employment levels could reduce income tax receipts for the government at the same time as corporate tax receipts have dropped

Unemployment levels increased slightly in September to 4.2 per cent

The unemployment rate in Ireland increased marginally during the month of September to reach 4.2 per cent – up from 4.1 per cent in August.

The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show just over 115,000 people were unemployed in September, with the unemployment rate for males at 4.4 per cent and 4 per cent for females.
