Top government officials to get €260k on exit under new rules

Departing secretaries general may also now be posted in another body at an equivalent level for up to five years

Secretaries general will now be paid a year’s salary worth between €230,000 and €258,000 as an exit payment, following agreement by the government.

They will also have the guarantee of another role within the civil service at no lower that assistant secretary grade, in what amounts to a significant enhancement of their terms and conditions.
