Tobacco firm Imperial Brands calls for excise duty on vapes
Company says a ‘reasonable’ rate of tax would bring ‘order and control’ to market amid concern over rate of vaping among young people and environmental impact of disposable e-cigarettes
The company that owns John Player and Rizla, the tobacco brands, has called on the government to introduce an excise tax on vapes to bring “order and control” to the e-cigarette market.
Imperial Brands, which recently launched a brand of vapes called Blu Bar in Ireland, has made the call amid a dramatic rise in the popularity of disposable vapes, which has prompted concerns over the health implications for young people and the environmental impact.
