TikTok contacting Irish politicians in plan to reassure Europeans over data security

The Chinese-owned social media app is attempting to convince authorities it would never share users’ data with the Chinese government

TikTok has briefed a number of Irish politicians as part of an effort to reassure European policymakers that it does not supply any users’ information to the Chinese government, as authorities crack down on the use of its video-sharing app.

The social media giant has reached out to Malcolm Byrne, the Fianna Fáil senator, and Colm Markey, the Fine Gael MEP, in recent weeks after both raised concerns about the company’s data storage practices.
