Three-quarters of Enterprise Ireland funding goes to men

Agency says backing for women-led, high-potential start-ups has greatly increased, but primary decision must be based on commercial factors

Enterprise Ireland (EI) has given far more funding to male than female entrepreneurs over the past six years, according to new figures.

The agency, which has a budget of €438 million, has set itself official targets of boosting the number of women setting up their own businesses.

But men are still getting up to three-quarters of the funding in EI schemes.
