‘This violence hurt Dublin’: Spending in city centre down 46% on Black Friday after night of riots

Violent demonstrations led to a sizeable dent in spending in Dublin 1 and 2 last weekend, new Bank of Ireland data shows

Spending in Dublin city centre dropped by almost half on Black Friday compared to previous years as a series of violent riots hindered spending across the weekend.

In-person card spending plummeted in the Dublin 1 and 2 areas among Bank of Ireland customers, and was down 46 per cent on Black Friday 2022.
