Former Irish Life & Permanent boss Denis Casey

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal against the conviction of former Irish Life & Permanent (IL&P) boss Denis Casey, who was jailed for his role in a €7.2 billion conspiracy to defraud.

The court will explore, as a point of law of general public importance, whether the defence of “officially induced error” is available in this jurisdiction and whether it was open to Casey at his trial in 2016.
