South East bore the brunt of the high winds with 1,700 homes left without power

Residents and businesses in the South East are picking up the pieces after being battered by the effects of Storm Gerrit.

On Wednesday night, more than 1,700 customers lost power in Wexford town at around 9pm and surrounding areas while other households were similarly affected in Dunmore East in Co Waterford.
