State spending on housing asylum seekers and Ukrainians in 2023 totals €1.8bn

Travelodge, Holiday Inn and the Citywest Hotel operators among firms to receive more than €455 million in the final three months of last year

The state spent more than €1.8 billion on accommodation for asylum seekers and Ukrainians last year, new data released by the Department of Integration has shown.

The final figure for 2023 means that spending on accommodation rose by almost €1 billion compared to the previous year, when €829 million was spent on housing for migrants.
