Government capital spending is to grow to a record €43 billion over the next three years, under newly agreed infrastructure spending ceilings.

The big winners of new spending allocations from 2024-2026 under the National Development Plan (NDP) will be housing, transport, health, environment, and education, with those departments making up more than three quarters of the state’s planned capital spending over the next three years.

The new figures were released by the Department of Public Expenditure as part of the updated capital spending ceilings for 2024-2026, which were announced last week after weeks of secretive negotiations with department ministers.
