Two of Silicon Valley's big players saw their shares jump in their first day of trading amid concern over their growth prospects.

Shares of Square, the mobile payments company run by Twitter chief executive Jack Dorsey, closed up 45 per cent in New York, valuing the company at about $4.2 billion.
