Sinn Féin on track for decisive victory in Northern Ireland local elections

Sinn Féin remains on course to become the largest party in local government in Northern Ireland, having claimed more than 130 seats so far and outstripped the DUP.

As the count stretched across a second day, the republican party has well over 130 elected councillors, with gains achieved across Northern Ireland.

The DUP has more than 110 council seats, while the Alliance party was closing in on 60.
