Sinn Féin accused of ‘flip-flopping’ on Nature Restoration Law

Party’s climate policy under fire after previously supporting the controversial law, but voting against it in the European Parliament today

Lynn Boylan, the Sinn Féin candidate for Dublin, described the passing of the law as ‘great news’ despite her party voting against it.

Sinn Féin has voted against the European Nature Restoration Law in the European Parliament, in an apparent U-turn on its publicly stated support for the proposed law.

The Nature Restoration Law proposes specific targets around the rewetting of peatlands, including some that are currently in agricultural use. This has proved particularly controversial in Ireland, while farmers across Europe have been pushing back on the law too.
