Shoppers spend more as grocery inflation increases – Kantar

Grocery price inflation hits record high of 16.4% in three months to end of February

The market is seeing much stronger own label growth (11.9 per cent) compared to brands (6.1 per cent), as shoppers look for ways to save money, research from Kantar found.

Irish shoppers spent an additional €113.56 per buyer in the 12 weeks to February 23, 2023 compared with the same period last year, according to figures from Kantar.

The growth in sales is mainly down to grocery price inflation, which hit 16.4 per cent in the three months, a new record high. This time last year inflation stood at 2.4 per cent.
