Eamon Ryan says Shannon Foynes Port can deliver more than 30 gigawatts by 2050, and is optimistic about other offshore wind projects despite two energy giants pulling out of market

Shannon Foynes Port’s hopes of providing up to six times Ireland’s current domestic energy demand by 2050 are conservative and could be surpassed, Eamon Ryan has said.

A review of the existing Shannon Foynes masterplan carried out by Bechtel, the engineering and construction firm, has estimated that the region’s floating offshore wind energy capacity could deliver 30 gigawatts of energy by 2050.
