Landlords will get refunds on fines for the late registration of tenants due to the flawed rollout of a new system.

The Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) has introduced a new requirement for landlords to register details of their tenants every year, instead of once every three years. But its new online registration system, introduced last April, has proven to be challenging to use.

Some landlords paid their registration fee and then were told that it had not been received. Others were not able to link to their previous tenancy registration data on the new system. The RTB confirmed to the Business Post that it is refunding landlords the late registration fees that were imposed on them, which amount to €90 each.
