The state agency in charge of road and public transport projects has begun a review of its multibillion-euro budget, amid fears that key developments could be jettisoned in the face of extraordinary construction cost increases, the Business Post has learned.

The review by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) will seek to determine “how much the current budget can deliver” and how many projects can be progressed within that funding envelope, according to an informed source.

The move comes as the Business Post has learned that proposals aimed at tackling the impact of soaring construction inflation on national infrastructure projects are set to be completed by the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform.
