Data from electricity readings has identified 25,000 properties as vacant, with a further 65,000 due to be inspected for ‘low energy usage’

Revenue was given access to ESB electricity data and analysed ‘low energy usage’ households

Revenue has used data from ESB electricity readings to identify 25,000 properties as part of the government’s crackdown on vacant homes.

The tax was introduced in last year’s budget and applied to residential properties in use as a dwelling for fewer than 30 days in a year.
