McDonald’s is claiming that new European Union packaging rules could actually lead to an increase in waste.

In briefing materials to MEPs, seen by the Business Post, the fast food giant claims that the new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) could have “unintended consequences” for the environment.

The European Parliament is set to vote on the regulation today, which aim to ensure that all packaging is reusable or recyclable by 2030.
