160 staff to be let go from Tara Mines under proposed rescue package
Co Meath facility will reopen after nine months of closure and a turbulent bout of talks between Boliden and unions
Tara Mines workers are to vote next week on a deal to reopen the Co Meath facility that will involve around 160 staff taking voluntary redundancy.
Employees at the mine, which has been shuttered since last July, will be balloted on the terms of the deal early next week, after months of talks between unions and Boliden, the Swedish company behind the business, yielded a breakthrough at 2am on Wednesday.
In a letter to staff, seen by the Business Post, Boliden said the proposal that has been agreed “is the best possible in light of the continuing external market challenges”.
